BYN («the app», «we») is a social app for planning nights out with friends. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Contact: bynapp.founder@gmail.com.
Data we collect
- Account data: email address, username, and password (or a Google / Apple sign-in identity). Used to create and secure your account.
- Profile data (optional): full name, age, gender, profile picture, nightlife preferences, and language. Used to personalise your profile and experience.
- Social data: your friends, friend requests, and users you have blocked. Used to power the friends features.
- Activity data: venue check-ins (which venue, when, planned or present), vibe ratings, and queue wait-time reports. Check-ins are visible to your accepted friends.
- Reports: if you report another user, we store the report so our team can review it.
Location
The app asks for location permission to sort venues by distance, show you on the map, and verify that you are near a venue (within 300 m) before you can submit queue or vibe reports. Your GPS position is processed on your device only and is never stored on our servers. Only the venue you actively check in to is stored.
How we use your data
We use your data solely to provide the app's features: authentication, friend connections, showing your check-ins to friends, venue statistics (aggregated counts), and moderation of reported users. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps or websites.
Sharing
Your data is stored with our backend provider, Supabase (hosted in the EU, Paris region). We share data with no one else. Aggregated venue counts (how many people are going to or at a venue) are visible to other users without revealing who you are, unless you are friends.
Your choices and rights
- Privacy toggles: in Settings you can hide yourself from friend suggestions and from user search.
- Blocking: you can block any user; you will no longer see each other in suggestions, search, or friend lists.
- Account deletion: you can permanently delete your account and all associated data (profile, check-ins, friendships) directly in the app: Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
- Access and correction: you can edit your profile in the app at any time, or contact us for a copy of your data.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, all your personal data is deleted immediately. User reports may be retained in anonymised form where required for safety.
Children
BYN is intended for users of legal nightlife age and is not directed at children under 17.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and note the new effective date above.
